Food Porn

Now that I have opened up this “foodie” can of worms… Let’s continue. So, when I am not watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey or The Kardashians, I am either watching The Food Network or reading food blogs. The Food Network calms me. If my husband is watching any sort of violent show I start screaming, “Turn On The Food Network! Turn on The Food Network!” Watching Barefoot Contessa on The Food Network instantly puts my mind and nerves at ease. I think you could consider me a “trained chef” considering the hundreds of hours of cooking shows that I have watched. My other favorite thing to do is read food blogs. I’m kind of obsessed. Today, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to my favorite favorite favorite food blog. It is called… I Am a Food Blog. How great is that!

The author of the blog is Stephanie Le. She’s not a chef, she is not a caterer, she doesn’t work at a food editorial, she doesn’t own a restaurant, she is just someone who loves food and photography. What I like about her is that she’s not annoying. She is humble, straightforward, intelligent, witty and has a great eye for food photography. I think she and I must have similar taste buds because everything she cooks, I want to eat.

Bravo to Stephanie because she won Saveur Magazine’s food blog of the year! On top of that she also won the editor’s choice for best cooking blog. This is no easy feat. In my opinion though, her competitors are nowhere near her level. There are some food blogs that have great photography but crappy food and then there are some food blogs that have great food but depressing photography. I Am A Food Blog has both! Great food and great photography!

Little Miss Stephanie has also published a book! By the way, I think I’m going to exploit my mother and force her to write a cookbook. Stay tuned for that. But anyway, yes, Stephanie has a great cookbook called Easy Gourmet. It says that it is a cookbook with “awesome recipes anyone can cook.” You can purchase it HERE.

I Am A Food Blog  recipes are so diverse. A lot of the recipes call for Sriracha. Love. There are a lot of bold remakes of American classics. Love. A lot of the recipes have the word “crispy” in the title which is code for "fried." Love. There aren’t a lot of salads. Love. And nothing really seems gluten-free. Love. Let me explain… Literally, the day I was diagnosed with ALS, my doctor offered me his most conclusive, honest, straightforward, research-based, statistically based, real life based advice towards ALS. “Get fat,” he told me. Fat people don’t get ALS. It took me a couple of years to come to terms with this… Stupidly. Most people would start spraying whipped cream down their throat. Not me. I have always been a healthy eater so it was really difficult for me to just start pounding fat people food. However, I have learned real food is real life for me. “Just eat the fucking truffled macaroni and cheese for God’s sake, Ellie.” So now I do, and that’s why I love this food blog. It’s real food. Real food that happens to involve vegetables, fruit, cheese, meat, cream, eggs, and flavor!

So, check it out, I Am a Food Blog. Let me know what you think. Actually, no, don’t. I already know it’s great.
