Bonjour from Provence! February Antique Sale!

Well, no matter how many gripes I may have with Provence, one thing is for sure… They know their antiques! And that, for me, gives them a hall pass for anything… including their postal system!

I have spent my weekends scouring the South of France to find items for the shop and boy has it been fun! So, here we go with the February sale!

First, I have something rather extraordinary. A pair of circa 1870 oiseau (bird) wall brackets. These are the real deal. Made of gilt-gesso and wood, these brackets are both strong in style with the eagle and delicate with the flowers and softened scalloped edges. Grand in scale, perfect for a chinoiserie blue and white vase! And the price is just right considering I saw a near identical pair of these bird brackets on 1stdibs.com for €11,000! Let’s take a look…

You know how I feel about sunburst mirrors. Love. This month I found a beauty! Large, asymmetrical and the perfect patina. I think it would look great over a bar table, don’t you? Take a look…

One of the best aspects of living in Provence is discovering charming paintings like this one. Definitely one of my all-time favorite paintings. The scene is, as they say in French, “formidable” meeting wonderful. A casual promenade under the plane trees of Provence. Does it get better than that! The colors are divine… Rich browns, deep greens, midnight blue and taupe. Take a look…

It wouldn’t be a Have Some Decorum sale without some chinoiserie! Can you tell I am obsessed? This month I have over 20 pieces! Trays, saucers, little vases, rectangular boxes, round boxes, square boxes! All antique, black lacquered, Napoleon III, circa 1800s. Let’s take a look…

I have been searching for a round antique French bread board since I got to Provence and finally I found one! Perfect to display in your kitchen and would be great as a cheese platter or charcuterie tray.… You could even serve a whole roasted chicken on this one!

My favorite people at the flea markets are the women with the antique linen collections. They are so proud of their wares and I could spend a good hour looking through their offerings. I always like something that is monogrammed… I don’t care if it’s not my monogram. I just like something that is unusual. I found this great set, perfectly white with a checkered damask background and with the initials MC. Typically French… Oversized and gorgeous. Take a look…

My mother passed on her obsession with cheese knives to me. I am always on the lookout. This month I found two great sets. The first set has a beautiful ivory colored handle and the second set has a charming porcelain blue and white handle! Love. Take a look…

Nothing says Provence like yellowware. This month I have three different sets… Platters, plates, coffee/tea cups and darling little egg cups. Think ratatouille, roasted chicken, salad niçoise, café au lait and hard-boiled eggs! A perfect French summer. These are definitely collectors items.

And of course, my blue and white chinoiserie. Lots of new pieces… Jars, vases, lamps, orchid pots, trays and even a darling little teardrop shaped dish which would be divine on your bedside table for jewelry or even as a serving dish for nuts on your cocktail bar. Take a look…

And don’t forget baskets! Lots of new baskets on the shop! Look…
