Have Some Decorum Home Shop June Sale Preview

It’s June and you know what that means! The Have Some Decorum Home Shop sale! I get excited for every sale but this one is extra special. I feel like after months of being ‘bout to die… I feel like I have my mojo back… sort of. I am doing the best I can to stay alive. Isn’t that a weird sentence to write… “trying to stay alive”? I never imagined that I would have to “try” to stay alive. But, here I am, age 46, willing myself to make it through another day. Every morning when I wake up, I laugh. I laugh because it’s hysterical that I am still here.

As you know, I try to make the best of my situation and that means doing what I love. My whole life has been about interior design and antiques. I am going to continue this love affair until my cold dead body is in the ground. Isn’t that a nice visual?

So, this month with the June sale marks the 1-year anniversary of my little shop. We have come a long way and I want to continue to grow the store… now to include furniture! Don’t’ be scared… shipping furniture from France is a piece of cake. I take care of everything for you with the help of my shipper that I have been using for 10 years. I want to start small with the furniture and then if all goes well, I will add more pieces every month. But don’t panic, I will still have my accessories as the main attraction of the shop with every price point.

We will still have our golden standards… Chinoiserie, mirrors and other small unique pieces from France.

Let’s start our preview. The shop opens Friday, June 17, 2016 at exactly 10am Pacific Standard Time.

Black Chinoiserie is not easy to find but red chinoiserie is even more difficult but have no fear, I have found some. The red chinoiserie is so special and the colors are so beautiful. They throw a pop into every interior. Let’s take a look.

This tray is phenomenal and so so rare. It is huge and was most likely used as side table. You could do that but I would use it as a bar tray or it would be perfect for cocktails and appetizers. When you are not using it for a party, it would be beautiful on your coffee table!

Red chinoiserie flower vases? Be still my heart!

Mirrors are always my weakness and I would buy hundreds if I could. I am obsessed with sunburst mirrors right now.

Remember this mirror from the previous sales? Well, here is the story behind them. A grand old Chateau was having a sale and I was fortunate enough to acquire 4 of the mirrors but guess what? The owner of the Chateau must have liked me because he offered me his entire collection and I have them for you on the June sale. Now you can use them as ceiling ornaments, a single mirror, a pair of mirrors or a whole grouping!

I also have 3 other sunburst mirrors available.

This one is divine. It has mirrored baguettes!

This one has gilt feathers and is tole (metal)! It is not too heavy at all so don’t worry about the shipping.

I also have this set of small sunburst mirrors!

Next up, a whole collection of Opaline flower vases! I am obsessed with these vases because I love the blue and because every flower looks stunning in the vases! Purple delphiniums, garden roses, peonies, lilacs… anything!

The most exciting piece on the shop this month is… are you ready for it? A Black Lacquered Antique Circa 1900 Chinoiserie Bed! Can you believe it? I have never ever seen an antique chinoiserie bed this beautiful. It is both masculine and feminine. Beautiful gold details of roses and daily scenes of Chinese life. Make sure you look at all the photos because you will just die at the beauty. Don’t worry about the shipping. The bed consists of a headboard, 2 side rails, and the footboard. Not heavy and super easy to assemble. The size is a full size bed so it would be perfect in a guestroom! Beds like this only come around once in a blue moon.

There are many more items on the sale but I want to surprise you with the rest!

The sale starts Friday, June 17 2016 at 10am Pacific Standard Time.

As a thank you for making my little shop a 1-year success, I have marked all of the prices 20% off! Thank you to all of you for making my dreams of a somewhat normal life come true.

*Something you don’t know about me? I was officially diagnosed with ALS June 16, 2011… My husband’s birthday! Isn’t that awful and hysterical at the same time? I will never forget the day… I was at Colombia University Hospital in the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center and my sweet doctor, Dr Mitsumoto, was starting to re-do every test he could think of that every other doctor in New York had already done. My husband, David, was arriving from the Red Eye flight from Los Angeles to New York. David walked into the hospital with all of his luggage and was with me through the whole horrible moment of Dr Mitsumoto telling me it was 99% sure that I had ALS. I ruined David’s birthday forever. So here we are again, June 16, David’s birthday, and I decided to do something super special to make up for the fact that I ruined his life…Stay tuned.

Bonjour from Provence! February Antique Sale!

Well, no matter how many gripes I may have with Provence, one thing is for sure… They know their antiques! And that, for me, gives them a hall pass for anything… including their postal system!

I have spent my weekends scouring the South of France to find items for the shop and boy has it been fun! So, here we go with the February sale!

First, I have something rather extraordinary. A pair of circa 1870 oiseau (bird) wall brackets. These are the real deal. Made of gilt-gesso and wood, these brackets are both strong in style with the eagle and delicate with the flowers and softened scalloped edges. Grand in scale, perfect for a chinoiserie blue and white vase! And the price is just right considering I saw a near identical pair of these bird brackets on 1stdibs.com for €11,000! Let’s take a look…

You know how I feel about sunburst mirrors. Love. This month I found a beauty! Large, asymmetrical and the perfect patina. I think it would look great over a bar table, don’t you? Take a look…

One of the best aspects of living in Provence is discovering charming paintings like this one. Definitely one of my all-time favorite paintings. The scene is, as they say in French, “formidable” meeting wonderful. A casual promenade under the plane trees of Provence. Does it get better than that! The colors are divine… Rich browns, deep greens, midnight blue and taupe. Take a look…

It wouldn’t be a Have Some Decorum sale without some chinoiserie! Can you tell I am obsessed? This month I have over 20 pieces! Trays, saucers, little vases, rectangular boxes, round boxes, square boxes! All antique, black lacquered, Napoleon III, circa 1800s. Let’s take a look…

I have been searching for a round antique French bread board since I got to Provence and finally I found one! Perfect to display in your kitchen and would be great as a cheese platter or charcuterie tray.… You could even serve a whole roasted chicken on this one!

My favorite people at the flea markets are the women with the antique linen collections. They are so proud of their wares and I could spend a good hour looking through their offerings. I always like something that is monogrammed… I don’t care if it’s not my monogram. I just like something that is unusual. I found this great set, perfectly white with a checkered damask background and with the initials MC. Typically French… Oversized and gorgeous. Take a look…

My mother passed on her obsession with cheese knives to me. I am always on the lookout. This month I found two great sets. The first set has a beautiful ivory colored handle and the second set has a charming porcelain blue and white handle! Love. Take a look…

Nothing says Provence like yellowware. This month I have three different sets… Platters, plates, coffee/tea cups and darling little egg cups. Think ratatouille, roasted chicken, salad niçoise, cafĂ© au lait and hard-boiled eggs! A perfect French summer. These are definitely collectors items.

And of course, my blue and white chinoiserie. Lots of new pieces… Jars, vases, lamps, orchid pots, trays and even a darling little teardrop shaped dish which would be divine on your bedside table for jewelry or even as a serving dish for nuts on your cocktail bar. Take a look…

And don’t forget baskets! Lots of new baskets on the shop! Look…

Summer Series: Le Postcard

“The gladdest moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure into unknown lands.” Sir Richard Burton

Uh ma gaa! That’s what I say every time I see the daily Instagram photos of my favorite travel website LePostcard. This ain’t your regular Joe travel website…

Le Postcard is a travel diary from the actual globetrotting jetsetters themselves. Conceived in 2014 by travel journalist, Stephanie Steinman, it is a little “E-black book” for the chic traveler. Stephanie was “curious and inspired by the wanderlust of the travel habits of the influencers around the world” and voilĂ , Le Postcard was born.

Not only does the website guide you to “where to go“ but it also shows you “how to go” and by that I mean… The details. The chic details.

Want to know what to pack? Check out the website’s “LeValise” (suitcase) and shop directly for the hippest, not your regular fare, It Girl items for your vacay… Let’s take a look…

What I like about the website is that it’s not the glitzy hoity-toity travel guide. It’s more for the unusual, chic, slightly Bohemian, Gypset traveler. Advice is given from the coolest Globetrotters on the planet… Fashion stylists, celebrity makeup artists, Vogue accessory editors, models, fashion editors, photographers, and entrepreneurs like the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes (who should, honestly, be President of the World.) Let’s take a look…

Serena Hood, Executive Fashion Editor for British Vogue always remembers to stock up when traveling to a beach destination on face and body sunscreen from Institut Esthederm.

Hair guru and celebrity hairstylist to the likes of Olivia Wilde and Jessica Biel, Mara Roszak, never forgets her Sheila Stotts hairbrush. Immediately after arriving to her hotel, Mara shampoos and conditions her hair, brushes it out, adds a little serum and puts it in a braid for an hour or so and voilĂ , perfect hair without the fuss… Remember, you’re on vacation….Not the Oscars.

Photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank, always a Nikon in hand, offers her advice on how to combat jet lag (coffee and green tea), recommends always taking a hard drive for extra photos, and prefers a spicy tomato juice for her in-flight beverage.

Model Carolyn Murphy always packs her travel yoga mat by Manduka and drinks water water water. A definite travel expert, Carolyn travels with T. Anthony luggage which seems to be the preferred brand of choice by most of these jetsetters.

We all know that the best time to read a good book is while on vacation and Le Postcard offers a reading list from their Book Club from some rather interesting travelers…

Kelly Talamas, Editor-In-Chief of Vogue, Mexico and Latin America, suggests Ernest Hemingway’s, A Movable Feast. Cofounder of JeanStories.com and the style director of Travel + Leisure, Jane Bishop suggests a great read… The Flaneur by Edmund White. A personal favorite, Micaela English, web editor of Town & Country, suggests Betty Halbreich’s (legendary personal shopper at Bergdorf Goodman’s) book, I’ll Drink to That: A Life in Style With a Twist.

Le Postcard’s best asset is its Instagram account. You will be so jealous you will want to kill yourself. Follow HERE if you dare. Now, let’s take a look…

Remember, there are four seasons a year to vacation so Le Postcard is a definite go to website for all things travel… Chic travel that is.

“I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.”-Mary Anne Radmacher

*Something you don’t know about me? As today is Gracie’s 20th birthday, I thought I would tell you a few things. First of all, August 10, 1995 is, was and will be the greatest day of my life because Amazing Grace “saved a wretch like me.” They put the little butterball on my chest and my life changed forever, for the better. Here are some interesting facts…

Little Petit Gracie was actually a big fat pig when she was a baby. Weighing in at her fighting weight, a whopping 10 pounds the day she was born.

I weighed almost 170 pounds when I had her. Mother/daughter big fat pigs.

Every time after I would breast-feed Gracie, she would projectile vomit.

Gracie has only required one Band-Aid in her entire life… And she still talks about it.

The day Gracie was born, the nurse had to brush and part her hair and slick it down because she had so much.

Gracie slept with me until she was four years old.

Gracie took a purse to the first day of preschool.

On Gracie’s 10th birthday, she got her ears pierced and immediately fainted.

Gracie loves to cook and still uses her self-made cookbook that she made in the fourth grade in cooking class.

Gracie has three fathers… Dylan, John and David. She uses all of them appropriately.

Even though Gracie is 20 years old today, she still calls me “mommy.”

At any given point in Gracie’s bedroom there are 3 half full glasses of beverages, an empty plate of spaghetti on her bedside table, clothing all over the floor and makeup spread out all over her fireplace mantel that she uses as a vanity. Curtains are mostly closed and her flowers are usually dead.

Gracie loves makeup, clothes, horror movies and any sort of online shopping. Her favorite book is Catcher in the Rye.

Gracie hates cheese, cooked tomatoes and tuna.

Gracie is painfully shy, loves family, traditions and any sort of expensive heirloom that she thinks she will inherit one day.

Gracie loves my friends like they were her own mother (and wishes they were sometimes) including Jenny, Yolanda, Mer, Diandra, Amber, Susan, Christy, Teran, Ursula and Tom (that’s in no particular order, my friends).

Gracie has never had a cavity.

Even though I have ALS, I would never trade my life for anyone else’s because I am the luckiest woman on earth because I have been blessed to spend even one day with this child, let alone 20 years. So, Happy Birthday my fair Gracie. Mommy loves you (even if you don’t read my blog).
